WRITING CHALLENGE:

PROPOSED TITLE (open to changes):
PRIMARY CHARACTERS: Laura, Cora, Stiles, Derek
SECONDARY CHARACTERS (optional): Scott
PAIRING: Sterek
SYNOPSIS: Laura and Cora go out to see a movie together (with Derek; mom insisted they take him for a walk or whatever). They want to see the latest gorey-action-thriller-violent-death-horror film, naturally (but Derek doesn't; these movies freak him out. He's more of a rom-com kind of guy). While standing in line to buy the tickets (Derek's getting the popcorn), they hear some obnoxious asshole (Stiles) in line complaining to his girlfriend or whatever (Scott) that he was being stood up on their date (Scott had a date with Allison) and spouting some male chauvinist bullshit about how men can't watch chick-flicks by themselves (except what he actually wants is someone to hold him through the sad bits and tell him he's beautiful p.s. true love is real). When they start to get an idea of what's actually going on in his conversation, they begin to hatch a plan—he can babysit Derek in the rom-com while Laura and Cora rock it up in the auditorium shoving movies that don't suck (or suck slightly less? Okay, they both suck equally hard, but at least these ones come garnished with explosions, is what we're saying). Everyone'll go home happy.

"Come on, man," Stiles said, hating the whine in his voice but willing to use any tool at his disposal. "You have to come!"

"Sorry, Stiles. You can still go see the movie, though, right?"

"What?!" Stiles screeched. Two young women standing in line nearby gave him a judging look. "I can't go to a chick flick by myself--" The young women's expressions were now full-on scowls. "--who'll hold my hand during the easily-avoidable-yet-heartbreaking misunderstandings? Who'll share in my tears during the romantic kisses of reconciliation? I need you!" The women were now looking amused and thoughtful. Stiles' experience in these matters taught him that this was not an improvement, but he a had a betrayal of the highest order to focus his thoughts right now.

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

*Recommended word count: 500-1K.
*I wrote the snippet in Stiles' POV, which is my preferred, but any POV is fine.
*The more I crossed out, the simpler it'll be? That's my theory, anyway.
*You don't even need to show the bit with the movie if you don't want to. You can just end it with Laura and Cora shoving Derek and Stiles and laughing manically.
